about nota

About us

Nota designs refillable leather journals created to keep everyday notes, plans and ideas organised in one place.

Made from vegetable-tanned leather and shaped by a structured design approach, each journal combines durability with a calm and balanced presence.

The leather cover remains while the pages inside can be replaced as they fill.

The intention is simple: to create a writing tool that stays useful, familiar and personal over time.

HOW IT STARTED

Using planners and notebooks has always been part of our daily work. They helped us keep ideas, notes and plans in one place.

Over time we realised that many notebook covers were either decorative or overly complicated. The intention behind Nota was to create something simpler - a journal built around structure, balance and durability.

Early versions were tested and adjusted until the format felt right: a clean cover, a flexible system and materials that improve with use.

DESIGN APPROACH

The design of Nota journals focuses on structure, proportion and clarity.

A defining detail is the creasing line that runs along the cover, creating a clean frame that gives the journal a more controlled and balanced appearance.

This approach reflects a simple idea: small details that serve a clear purpose while shaping the identity of the object.

THE SYSTEM

Nota journals use a flexible modular system. Refill notebooks can be added, removed or rearranged depending on how the journal is used. The cover stays the same while the inside adapts to different needs. This allows the journal to evolve with time instead of being replaced.

materials

Nota journals are made from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Tuscany, Italy.

The leather keeps its natural surface and develops character through use, becoming softer and gaining a deeper tone over time.

Inside, we use Munken Pure cream paper produced in Sweden, with a smooth writing surface and good opacity, suitable for most writing tools.

craft

Each leather cover is made in small batches in our studio. The process includes cutting the leather, shaping the cover, finishing the edges and assembling the elastic system.

Working in small batches allows us to maintain consistent quality and pay attention to details that influence how the journal feels in use. Every step is done with the goal of creating a durable object that remains reliable over time.

build TO LAST

Nota journals are designed for long-term use.

Vegetable-tanned leather becomes softer with time and develops a patina that reflects daily use.
The refillable system allows notebooks to be replaced without replacing the cover.

The intention is simple: to create objects that stay useful, personal and familiar through everyday work.
